To Simplify... the pursuit of happiness through simple living on the open road

New Here?

Hello, and welcome! If you're just discovering my blog for the first time, allow me to bring you up to speed on what's been going on in your absence.

My name is Glenn Morrissette, and I'm a professional musician (composer, arranger, orchestrator and saxophonist), I live full-time on the road in a fully self-contained motor home, and this blog serves as the chronicle of my adventures.

It all began back on August 4, 2009 when after having sold and/or given away almost everything I own, I left my Los Angeles apartment behind, and commenced to living in The Falcon:

Why would I do such a thing, you ask? I wanted to radically simplify my life -- to pare down my possessions and escape the trap of careless consumerism, all with the intent of never again having my pursuit of the truth be clouded by the pursuit of stuff, and thereby recapturing more freedom, time, and money to do the things that make me happy. That, and it just seemed like a really cool thing to do.

If you are so ambitious as to go back and read this blog from its humble beginnings, you'll see that the first eight or nine months of this adventure were spent living in and around the Los Angeles area. After having tested the waters with a few two week-long road trips further beyond the City of Angels, I gradually developed the itch to take The Falcon out on the open road for a longer stretch.

Enter The Falcon Summer Odyssey -- a three-month cross-country trip to New York City and back. At least that was the plan. After setting out near the end of May, 2010, I made it as far as Defiance, Ohio on the return leg of the trip in late July, where I (somewhat defiantly) decided against returning to LA as scheduled in favor of staying on the open road indefinitely. I wanted to be free to either roam far and wide or sit in one place for as long as the situation warranted, unhurried by any kind of deadline to return "home" (whatever that means anymore).

By November of 2010, I had been at it long enough to know that I'd be living this way for a while, so I began the process of finding the right rig to carry me in comfort over the long haul. Just a month later, I took the plunge and upgraded to the mighty chariot pictured below:

I've since been enjoying the slow process of customizing my Chinook Concourse to best suit my needs, all while continuing to live small and wheeled. That about sums up the Cliff's Notes version of the story, but if you're keen on soaking up all the gory details, you're welcome to go back and read from the beginning. I'll still be here when you finish.

NOTE: If you do go back to the beginning, you'll notice how I was originally pretty secretive about certain details of my life, most notably, my career as a professional musician. This may seem a bit confusing as you read the old posts, since a brief glance at the blog's header clearly shows that I've since come clean on the matter. Just bear in mind that, after almost two years of posts, there has been a bit of an evolution to this whole story, so as you go farther back, the current face of the blog may not always make sense in that context.

Oh, and I almost forgot -- keeping me company on this grand adventure is my loyal and intrepid navigator Emily (17 18 years old, and still going strong!):

Join us as we share the triumphs, defeats, lessons learned, and tales and images of our travels, along with occasional bits of opinion, philosophy, and humor thrown in for good measure!
