to simplify     notes from the open road

The new Propex heater is now up and running, and keeping the van at a balmy 68 tonight as the temperatures outside plunge into the low 40s. That, here in Southern California, is what we call "cold." As you can see below, I still have to run the ducting, but that will wait until I've figured out the cabinet that will cover the heater. For now however, it works, though I'll admit it isn't much to look at.

Better still, although it took some doing, I managed to install the thermostat within arm's reach of the bed – very important for those chilly mornings, when I'll be able to reach up, flip on the heat, and then go back to sleep for 10 minutes while the place gets up to temperature.

Now I just have to figure out how to cover up all these exposed guts in the back of the van (the electrical stuff and heater) with the new desk and a couple of cabinets. I'm still not sure how that's going to happen, but hey, that hasn't stopped me yet.
