As we pull into Rotorua, Ron the bus driver warns the band that a body was recently pulled from the town's scalding-hot geothermal pools, presumably the result of some yokel failing to heed the many warning signs. The manmade ones sticking out of the ground in addition to the far more potent ones that nature provides...

That numerous adult beverages were involved seems likely.

Ron goes on to describe the ground around the pools as being thinner than cigarette paper, but then, the entire story is open to question – almost two weeks since arriving, and I'm only getting about 43% of the old-timer's thick Kiwi brogue. Odds of improving that number measurably over the next month look increasingly bleak.
